Cancercare is pleased to welcome Dr Hamza Ally to the Gqeberha unit, reinforcing our commitment to providing accessible, high-quality oncology care to patients in the Eastern Cape. Dr Ally joins the team with a strong clinical foundation and a growing focus on radiation oncology, supported by experience across multiple hospital settings.

Dr Ally completed his MBChB at the University of the Free State before gaining broad clinical experience during his internship and community service. Early in his career, he worked across emergency medicine, internal medicine, and district hospital environments, building a strong foundation in patient care and clinical decision-making. These roles provided exposure to a wide range of medical conditions and helped shape his calm, compassionate approach in high-pressure clinical settings.

His interest in oncology developed during his time as a medical officer in oncology services, where he gained exposure to cancer management and multidisciplinary care. He later progressed to a registrar position in Radiation Oncology at Universitas Academic Hospital, where he developed experience in both radiation and broader oncology care. During this period, Dr Ally strengthened his skills in treatment planning, patient assessment, and collaborative care within specialist oncology teams.

Dr Ally also holds a Postgraduate Diploma in Palliative Medicine from the University of Cape Town, reflecting his commitment to holistic cancer care. He places strong emphasis on patient-centred communication and supporting individuals and families throughout their treatment journey. His approach focuses on balancing effective treatment with quality of life considerations.

With Dr Ally joining the Gqeberha unit, Cancercare continues to strengthen oncology services in the region. Expanding access to specialist care closer to where patients live plays an important role in improving treatment experience and supporting continuity of care.
