Treatments We Offer
Chemotherapy
Treatment that uses drugs to stop the growth of cancer cells, either by killing the cells or by stopping them from dividing.
Radiotherapy
3D conformal radiation therapy is a cancer treatment that shapes the radiation beams to match the shape of the tumor.
Brachytherapy
Brachytherapy places the radiation source as close as possible to the cancer cells so treatment is given over a short distance.
Our History
Cancercare was founded in 1989 by Dr Leon Gouws under the name GVI Oncology, with its first unit opening in the northern suburbs of Cape Town. Over the years Cancercare has grown into its current network of nine centres across the Western and Eastern Cape.
The company has come a long way since its establishment and today provides work for 160 staff and 25 specialist oncologists. Cancercare treats more than 2 500 new patients per year and has more than 90 000 patient contacts per year.
