Cancercare is pleased to welcome Dr George Murray to the Vergelegen Cancercare Oncology Centre in Somerset West, further strengthening our commitment to delivering comprehensive, patient-centred oncology care in the region. As a Clinical and Radiation Oncologist, Dr Murray brings extensive experience, a strong academic foundation, and a deeply compassionate approach to patient care.

Dr Murray completed his MBChB at the University of KwaZulu-Natal in 2009, following postgraduate studies in biotechnology, medical physiology, and education. He went on to specialise in Radiation Oncology, earning his MMed from the University of the Free State and Fellowship of the College of Radiation Oncology (CMSA) in 2021. He has worked in oncology full-time since 2015, developing broad expertise across both clinical and radiation oncology disciplines.

Prior to joining Cancercare, Dr Murray led a well-regarded oncology centre in Stellenbosch, where he played a key role in delivering high-quality, multidisciplinary cancer care. His clinical approach focuses on integrating advanced radiation techniques with modern systemic therapies, including immunotherapy, chemotherapy, endocrine therapy, targeted treatments, and antibody-drug conjugates. Where appropriate, he also collaborates with partners to coordinate innovative treatment approaches such as cryotherapy, locally ablative procedures, and radionuclide therapies.

Dr Murray is committed to treating the whole patient, not just the disease. His approach includes a strong focus on supportive care, including counselling, palliative care, genetic referrals, and oncofertility guidance. He places particular emphasis on clear communication and shared decision-making, ensuring that patients feel informed, supported, and actively involved in their treatment journey from diagnosis through to long-term follow-up.

With his addition to the Vergelegen team, Cancercare continues to expand access to advanced oncology care in Somerset West and surrounding areas. Working alongside an established multidisciplinary team, Dr Murray contributes to a collaborative care environment designed to support patients at every stage of their journey.
